Angel Scott-Bottoms - franchise consultant at Taylor Made Franchising

Taylor Made Franchising has hired a new member of staff to support their 100+ franchisees.

Taylor Made Franchising currently owns or part-owns nine franchise brands with an annual turnover of approximately 19 million a year. They expanded from six brands to nine in 2022 alone.

American-born Angel Scott-Bottoms (48) comes to Taylor Made as a franchise consultant with experience in business and franchising. She is also training to be a psychotherapist in her spare time.

Born in Ohio, Angel obtained a degree in English from Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio.

Franchise owner

She taught English as a foreign language for many years in Japan, Virginia, and California before moving to Alabama. Realising there weren’t many foreigners looking to learn English in Alabama, she switched careers and bought a ‘The Little Gym’ franchise in 2006. She ran the children’s-based activity franchise for 10 years until selling the business to move to the UK with her new British husband in 2017.

Business Coach

Whilst living in Huntsville, Alabama and running her franchise, Angel was a member of the Women’s Business Council and volunteered at the Women’s Business Centre of North Alabama where she was named ‘Business Coach of the Year’ in 2010.

Franchise Consultant

After moving to Manchester in 2017, Angel was offered a job as a franchise consultant with the multi-franchise group, Neighbourly. Although she very much enjoyed working with individual franchisees to grow their businesses, multiple trips away from home took their toll and eventually she left to find a more home-based role which would give her more time with her young family.

2nd Franchise

Whilst considering her options which included starting her own children’s activity classes, Angel came across another franchise organisation, Tots Play. As she says: “It had everything I wanted in a programme, so it made no sense reinventing the wheel.’ She bought her second franchise in 2019, this time in the UK, which she still runs today.

Angel says: “When I started with Tots Play, a programme for babies and toddlers, I didn’t know a single person with a baby in Manchester. I didn’t even know what a dummy was or a nappy, we use totally different words in the US, so I’m really proud that despite all of that, I started my own business and made a great success of it. I grew it to 180 students and our retention rates are very good.”

Franchising is flexible

In a perfect representation of franchising being flexible, Angel has now taken on a teacher to cover the 12 classes a week she taught, leaving her free to start her new job as a franchise consultant for Taylor Made Franchising.

Women In Business Network franchise

Angel says: “I wasn’t really looking for a job, but an ex-colleague got in touch and asked if I was interested in working with Taylor Made Franchising and specifically, the Women In Business Network brand. I was immediately impressed with the culture at both businesses, who have been fully supportive of me continuing to run my franchise, so it didn’t take long for me to say ‘yes.’

Reporting directly to operations director David Callister, Angel will initially be working as the brand leader of Women in Business Network, before transitioning into a wider support role for all franchisees across the Taylor Made Franchising network.

Supportive franchise

She continued: “I have never met such a switched-on bunch of franchisees as those at WIBN. They are so supportive of each other, building a great culture and community and genuinely wanting to help other women running their own businesses, so from that point alone, I was sold on the job and I’m really looking forward to helping them expand the business.”

Mature franchises

“I’m also excited to be part of Taylor Made Franchising’s expansion journey. The company is made up of some terrific brands; some with long histories like Wilkins Chimney Sweep and others who have just joined to franchise their businesses. From a franchise consultant’s point of view, it is a dream job and I can’t wait to start supporting the franchisees across the group, there are definitely exciting times ahead.”

Rapid franchise network growth

Operations director David Callister said: “We are delighted to welcome Angel to Taylor Made Franchising. Initially, she will be working as a brand leader with the Women In Business Network team. We are growing rapidly and as such need to invest in our infrastructure to help support our brands. Angel is a welcome addition to the team; she has been a franchisee and worked for a franchisor which gives her invaluable experience that we know will benefit our brands.”
